2016-2017 Tuition rates
TUITION & PAYMENT POLICIES
A refundable deposit fee equivalent to two week's tuition is required. The deposit is applied to your last week's tuition. When a child leaves the Center, if two weeks' written notice regarding withdrawal from the program is not given, the deposit will not be refunded.
All families must pay a non-refundable $50.00 registration fee per child.
TPCDC has a small scholarship fund. Scholarships are awarded as they are available to families who demonstrate a financial need. Anyone interested in applying for tuition assistance should contact the Director for an application. Scholarships are renewable, annually. A limited amount of short-term assistance is available also.
Tuition Assistance Programs through the Department of Social Services
TPCDC works in conjunction with the Maryland Department of Social Services and charitable organizations to provide families who qualify with tuition assistance. If the tuition subsidy does not cover the full cost of tuition, the family is required to pay the remaining portion of the tuition fee. Assistance may be available for those families who are unable to pay the entire amount on the remaining tuition. Anyone interested in learning more about tuition assistance programs should contact the Director.
When more than one child in a family attends the Center, a 10% reduction in tuition will be given to the child with the lowest tuition. This reduction will only be given if both children are regularly enrolled. Reductions are not given to siblings who attend as guests.
Payment & Billing Procedures
Tuition is due on the first day of the month that your child attends TPCDC. Unless alternative arrangements are made with the Director, families are expected to pay tuition monthly. Families who cannot pay monthly are asked to pay semimonthly, on the first and fifteenth day of the month.
The Center does not send out bills to the families. If you have a question about how much you owe, please ask one of the front office staff and they will be glad to assist you.
Tuition is charged for enrollment regardless of actual attendance. Tuition is charged for days when the Center is closed due to severe weather and for holidays. Tuition is charged if a child is absent due to illness or vacation. Families will not receive a bill each month.
Monthly tuition is calculated by multiplying a daily base rate by the number of days your child attends per week. This number is multiplied by 52 and divided by 12 (24 for those who pay bi-monthly) so that you pay the same amount each month regardless of the number of days in the month.
If you are not certain what your tuition is, please inquire with the Director. Tuition checks should be made payable to TPCDC and should be left in the box marked ìtuition" outside of the Directorís office.
Please note your child's name on the check.
Late Charges & Penalties
If tuition is five days late, you will receive a late notice and a $20 late fee will be applied. If payment is not received 10 days after it is due, an additional $20 late fee will be applied. If the late fees plus regular fees are not paid 15 days after they are due and a payment plan has not been arranged with the Director, your child will not be permitted to attend TPCDC. Once payment is made, your child will be readmitted to the Center if a slot is available. A $25 fee will be charged for returned checks.
It is not the intention of the Center to deny any child care due to extreme financial hardship. If parents encounter problems paying any of the fees associated with the Center, they are encouraged to contact the Director immediately to work out a payment plan. These payment plans must be in writing and families must remain current on whatever payments are agreed upon. Families are strongly encouraged to contact the Center immediately when payment problems arise and not to postpone payments and thereby incur additional penalties.
Change in Tuition Rates
Tuition fees are reviewed by the Board of Directors each year. Parents may expect modest annual increases to keep up with inflation. A 60-day notice will be given before a change in tuition rates is implemented.
Calculating Partial Month Tuition Payments
If you need to pay for only part of a month because you are withdrawing from the Center or starting part way through a month, use the following formulas to calculate the fee for the part of the month you are in attendance.
To calculate a weekly rate:
Take your monthly rate (the monthly rate structure is found at the end of this handbook) and divide by 4.33 to get the weekly rate (4.33 is the number of months in the year divided by the number of weeks). For example, if your monthly rate is $712, then to get your weekly rate: $712/4.33 = $164.43.
If you need to calculate the rate for part of a week (as in when your child starts attending on a Wednesday), simply take the weekly rate as calculated above and divide by five to get the daily rate. In the example above, $164.43/5 = $32.89. The rate for the three days would thus be $32.89 x 3 = $98.66.
Please be sure to attach a note to your tuition payment saying what any partial payments are for tofacilitate accounting.
