Covid-19 Safety

Covid Precautions

At TPCDC, our goal is to provide a safe environment for children and staff by:

  • Spending lots of time outside
  • Masking as local CDC levels require
  • Managing material and toy use
  • Regularly cleaning, disinfecting, and hand-washing
  • All classrooms have hospital-grade HEPA air filters
  • Opening classroom windows when possible
  • Highly encouraging children, families, and staff stay up-to-date on Covid vaccinations
  • Continuing training for staff on best practices of infection control

No Symptoms Allowed

Children or staff experiencing any of the following symptoms will not be admitted to care/allowed to work. If an individual is experiencing any of these symptoms but has received a negative Covid test result, and the symptoms are understood to have an alternative diagnosis, the individual will be admitted to care/allowed to work after they meet TPCDC's requirements for returning after illness as outlined in the family handbook on page 51.

Need a Rapid/At-home Test?

TPCDC has a full supply of rapid/at-home antigen tests to share with members of the TPCDC community. Please stop by the office to ask for one.

Covid Policies
As of January 9, 2024

Mask & Rapid Test Policy

TPCDC may require KN95 (or equivalent) masks and/or rapid testing for staff and children if:

Recent Covid Exposure?

If an individual, regardless of vaccination status, has been exposed to COVID either at home or at school, we ask you to:

  1. Monitor for symptoms. If symptoms develop, take a rapid test. If negative, continue to test daily if symptoms continue.
  2. Notify TPCDC If a child is exposed outside of school so teachers can help monitor the child for symptoms.
  3. Wear a KN95 mask (or the equivalent). Wearing a mask is recommended for 10 days after exposure.

Positive for Covid and Capable of Correct & Consistent Masking?
(Return no earlier than Day 6 with no symptoms)

If an individual, regardless of their vaccination status, contracts COVID and is at least 5 years old and is capable of correct and consistent masking (as determined by the director), they may return to TPCDC after following these steps:

  1. Isolate for at least 5 days. (Symptoms or positive test results occur on Day Zero.)
  2. Monitor symptoms.
  3. Return to TPCDC no earlier than Day 6 after at least 24 hours of no symptoms (without medication). A negative rapid/at-home antigen test is a good indicator of the individual’s readiness to return, but is not required so long as symptoms are gone and the individual is able to be vigilant in their mask-wearing.
  4. Wear a well-fitting KN95 (or equivalent) mask at ALL times when around other people for 5 more days after return (Days 6-10). This means no eating, drinking, sleeping, or removing of their mask around others.

Positive for Covid and Not Capable of Correct & Consistent Masking or a Child in the Teddy Bears, Munchkins, or Rainbows Classroom?
(Return no earlier than Day 6 with a negative rapid test)

  1. Isolate for at least 5 days. (Symptoms or positive test results occur on Day Zero.)
  2. Monitor symptoms.
  3. Test with a rapid/at-home antigen test on Day 5 or the morning of Day 6 if the child has had no symptoms for 24 hours (without medication).
  4. Return to TPCDC on Day 6, if Day 5 and/or Day 6 rapid tests are negative and the child remains symptom-free (without medication).
  5. If Day 5 or 6 rapid tests are positive, continue to take a rapid test every day until the child has a negative rapid test to return.
